tomb raider anniversary is the best game so far. I don't know how underworld would look like. it didn't had all the stuff from legend and some of them cut off and i didn't liked that. To me it is better than legend just because of the graphic. Everything is worse than legend such as gun, vehicle, outfit, combat, slow mo( i wouldm't call the dodge as slow mo because it slows down for like 3 second, camera rotaion( it spin really smooth, but to much at one motion, read some of my legend review and that say somthings between legend and anniversary. I like the golden shotgun so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kill every thing so fast, it just need to load little faster. i like the game play the levels are good and puzzles were awesome except for when you don't have your weapons. good thing that they remove that PLS and the flair. I rather play without them and whole game is bright. graphic are realisic and if you have not brought it yet then you should. It is longer than legend so you don't feel like you waste your money. though it was easy. other than the puzzle, bosses have there weak point and always when you fight an enemy you could go onto high place where enemy cannot attack you and you could shoot them without getting hurt at all. if you are not good at fighting enemy, this is for you there is not much secret but they are hard to get them especially the relics, I could never find one unless i look at FAQs and guides. enemy could damage you alot if you choose difficultly hard, one attack can cause 1/3 of your energy. I think that they should do something about that wall grapple. good idea but difficult to perform. i like the dodge but i get glinch sometimes and difficult to do in a row. it was good game

Tomb raider anniversary is a wonderful, enjoyable game that really does bring back memories of her first adventure. The new moves and graphics are brilliant and the puzzles are fiendishly difficult, but the controls mean that the platforming isn't as hard as it used to be.But due to the fantastic story and the cool collectables, this can easily be forgiven.A near perfect game.

I love Anniversary generically and these pointers were the very best of Crystal Dynamics' ingenuity:

*Action Sequences are brilliant.
*Adrenaline Dodges are wonderful
*Newer harder puzzles to boggle the brains of even the most elite raiders.
*Intelligent enemies adding deadly elements to levels.

Also the graphics and gameplay are a supremity in the field of action-adventure games.

I guess I'm the first one who hasn't played the original Tomb Raider, before playing Anniversary.
Clearly TRA is a good Tomb Raider game, but I think that Crystal Dynamics wanted to make a game that would stand between TR1 and TRL in gameplay. I say that because Anniversary is much like Legend, yet it is much more "Adventure" than it. Levels are bigger and more complicated. Combat is more difficult than TR7 and opponents are tougher. The interactive scenes are lesser and in my opinion easier.
The boss-fights are a great experience, with the battle against T-Rex as the best of the game and one of the 5 best on any game I 've ever played. In the first time I played the game I loved the battles against Larson, Coad and Kid, but at last I 'd prefer them to be real battles with interactive scenes in set moments (e.g. when they have half HP remaining or when they are about to be defeated).
About the graphics I don't think I have anything to say, you can just check a screenshot. Especially the backgrounds and Lara herself are awesome. The sound quality is also very good, though it feels a little lonely sometimes (I loved the dialogs with Zip and Alister in Legend) but other times this feeling is indescribable.
The new moves Lara can perform don't seem so necessary, though I really like the PoP-like wallride. The moves that I really love are the floor acrobatics! I can spend a lot of a time walking in a lane, just to perform my favorite combination of them... Also with all those hidden items and treasures, it shall take a lot of time to finish this game (I mean 100%).
Conclusively Anniversary is a must-buy for anyone who likes Action-Adventure games (I believe that it's 50% Action and 50% Adventure-platform) and not only. It's one of the best games I 've played this year and one of the best in Tomb Raider Series.

Tomb Raider Anniversary isn't my favorite game, the story is not the best BUT.. this is the best game style sinds crystal diamonds...
the only thing i still don't like what the old Core games has are the saving stuff.. i never liked it if u couldn't save when u want.. so crystal diamonds should add this thing to tomb raider 8....

but now back to anniversary...
the story is the same only now her father is in this plot now to... and i didn't like that...and the head shot stuff i also didn't like that, if crystal diamonds going to much that direction i wont like the new games i think..... tomb raider has always bin a great combination of puzzling and fighting.... later on they gain also moving stuff etc. i played the PC version and in the beginning i liked it... but when in greece i noticed they lay to much pressure on the end bosses. egypt was the best part of the whole game. because of the more puzzles and moving stuff. i give anniversary a 6
for the whole game.. but if u look at other TR games and look back to this 1 it will get a lower grade even.........

so here my end conclusion..
still i prefer everyone to buy it... but not if u are a great fan from the old TR game style. the story has changed to much if u ask me.... and of course i hope that part 8 will look more to legends then anniversary.... be gone with the head shot.... emoticon

Review based on PS2 version of the game

The idea of a remake of the original Tomb Raider didn't interest me at the time, I expected it to essentially be the same game again with better graphics. But after playing, it seems like the perfect choice for a Tomb Raider game after Legend's reload of the series.

The most important thing to note about this game is that it's not the same as the original at all. The general level structures are similar, but the puzzles and maneuvers are almost completely new. Even the story line will grip you even if you remember the original, because there's some interesting new details that greatly effect how this chapter of Lara's life changed her. There's also more information on Natla and the Atlantis mythology that was missing from the original.

The level designs are much better than in Legend; a lot less linear and ultimately more challenging. The inventory makes a welcome return so you can collect items on your quest, although the inventory screen itself is rarely used as weapon changing can be done with the D-Pad and key items are used automatically when required.

Combat is mostly with animals and atlentean creatures as in the original game. It's mostly a classic case of auto-aim firing whilst jumping about, but the new Adrenaline Dodge makes things a bit more interesting, though it can take a while to get the hang of. Lara's artillery is as it was in the original game - shotgun, uzis and shotgun. With the turbo mode of my controller I found the default pistols sufficing most of the time, just whipping out the big guns for the boss battles. There aren't many boss battles, slightly disappointing that we don't get to fight some of the adversaries in the game, but the few boss battles we do get are excellent highlights of the game.

Maneuvers haven't changed radically from Legend, it's still intuitive and fluid to navigate the tombs. The autograb feature isn't as reliable as it should be, often I'd run off a ledge expecting to grab it but instead plummeting to my death. There's two major new moves, the wall run and the pole balance. The wall run is a decent enough idea, but trying to jump of parallel to the wall was infuriating. The pole balance is an unnecessary addition, hitting triangle to keep your balance in the middle of a trap dodging sequence gets annoying quickly. However the majority of the moves, which have made there way over from Legend, feel natural and there a a few welcome tweaks (such as a wider range of floor acrobatics, just for fun).

My biggest problem with this game was the checkpoint system. It works the same as in Legend, but doesn't fit the less linear level style. For example, if you fall down a large chasm into water, you're better off killing yourself to appear back at the top before triggering an earlier checkpoint and having to do a lot of work again. Also, as your health is restored at checkpoints, if you trigger one with depleted health you may as well find a way to kill yourself to get back to 100%. This system needs a major rethink for the next Tomb Raider.

The game wouldn't feel complete without Croft Manor, and the new format is one of the best yet. Although the manor design is similar to Legend, changes such as the crates in the hall (a nice nod to the original), the inclusion of the garden and maze, a different time of day and some newly unlocked rooms make a completely new experience. Instead of a vast amount of secrets to collect there's a handful that are harder to find, and some very nice puzzles to solve in the process. It was over a bit too quickly for my liking and there's still much more that can be done for the next game, but it's still a fantastic extra to the main game.

The story mode is longer than Legend and you won't feel like the game has ended prematurely this time round. With the timetrials and secrets too, this could last you for a long time. So whether you're fairly new to Tomb Raider or a long time player, this is well worth a purchase. I'm reluctant to give the game a 10/10 with the problems I've mention, and due to the fact that it's not quite as exciting as a completely new adventure would be. But a 9 is well deserved, as in many ways this is the best Tomb Raider yet.

I loved this game as it followed the basic storyline of the original tomb raider but it added a twist. It was spectacularly laid out and the enemies were really challenging but easy at the same time. The action sequences were great and the T-Rex fight was really good. The levels were long and great to play. All the new moves and the same ones as legend gave the game a great spice. The locations were designed with class. What I didn't like was the lack of boss battles. There could have been more battles and the levels could have been more challenging. But this game was the best Tomb Raider game yet!!!

Overall I give this game 9/10.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is based on Lara's first game back in 1996 on Playstaion, Sega Saturn and PC. At the star of Tomb Raider Anniversary we find Lara reading her fathers journal and looking for a mystical object called the Scion. Lara is hired by Jaquiline Natla, who thinks in her insentive, Lara is the right one to find the Scion in the Tomb of Quelepec in the snowy mountains of Peru. Lara heads off straight away.
Further in the game Lara finds out that Natla was the Queen of Atlantis and with the power of the Scion, Natla can rebuild the army of Atlantis.

The graphics are extraordinary and we finaly find out why Lara is searching for the Scion. It also has all new moves. Lara had a grapple and could swing and run on walls with it. This grapple isn't magnetic one in Legend though. Built with the same engine in Legend, the graphics and locations were amazing. Lara could run fulidly and flip through the Lost Valley.
The T-Rex fight is worth the wait. It was a greater challenge than the origanal, allowing Lara to do an awesome combat move called the adrenaline roll.
I think I'll give it a 9/10. The Upside: The enemys were a hard fight. The levels were well done and amazing.
Downside: I would much rather have an actual boss battle with Piere, Larson, Kid and Coad. The superactions didn't bother me but I'd love more of a challenge!
Overall a great job by Crystal Dynamics. I thought it was brilliant!
